Introducing Kara…

With the addition of our newest team member, we thought to ourselves - what better way to introduce Kara than putting together a fun little blog post so we can all get to know her together.

So let’s get into it…

Mystified and pleased as to how the social and creative landscape unfolds in front of her, Kara has always had a deep love for intricate narratives - whether they be written, verbal or visual. A bookworm and amateur film photographer from a young age, she draws inspiration from many things - but mostly general worldly observations, language and other creative work.

Kara began her creative journey in high school, attending an art school that aptly fostered her creativity. She then went on to study visual arts, visual merchandising, and finally digital media. We couldn’t be more excited to have another creative brain on board.

As part of her introduction, we had a few questions for Kara, and we know you will love her more with each endearing answer! We’ve definitely found ourselves a keeper.

First job? My first job was as a waitress at a health food cafe when I was a teenager.

What gives you energy at work? Really getting stuck into something and getting into the flow, or working collaboratively with others, or just working on something that I really love.

What is a trip that changed your life? Going to Cuba. It was really interesting to see such a beautiful and old country that operates under a completely different government system than what Australia does, and how this impacts their way of living. Also amazing music, weather and people.

How do you like to unwind after a busy day? I like to get home, have a shower, have a tea and just relax and recharge. Usually, I will meditate and read a book or just watch something mindless on the television with my housemates.

Do you have any guilty pleasures? I don’t really believe in guilty pleasures but if I must say, I have a very large sweet tooth. Anything with a combo of chocolate and nuts is my go-to.

Cats or dogs? I am definitely a dog person, cats are far too aloof for me.

If you could only have 3 apps on your phone, what would they be? My camera app, notes app and Instagram.

Is there a trend you would like to come back in? Maybe good music! Lol.

What are you reading at the moment? I’m reading 2 books at the minute, one is called Emotional Design by Don Norman which is a study into why humans love the things that we love, or hate the things that we hate - from a user experience perspective. The other one is Promiscuities by Naomi Wolf which is a collection of anecdotal stories and research that can explain female sexual development with much more honesty and depth than the traditional research we’ve mostly been exposed to.

What is your favourite place to eat? I love many places to eat, but I’m always a sucker for a big bowl of healthy vegan food for a good price.

What destination is on your must-visit list? I have A LOT more traveling to do, but next, I would really love to visit north and South Africa, and also East Timor.

And that’s all the quizzing we had for Kara today. We are so excited to have her as part of the team and can’t wait to keep learning and developing with her.
